The 2017 Tenuta Regaleali Grillo Cavallo delle Fate is one of the flagship whites of the Tasca d’Almerita portfolio and one of the top whites made in Sicily. Grillo (literally translating to “cricket”) is an indigenous white grape well suited for the high temperatures of Western Sicily, where it is grown commonly for Marsala production as well as table wines. The cuvee named Cavallo delle Fate translates
to “the Fairies’ Horse”, a reference to the crickets that fairies ride in Italian folklore. Regaleali grows their Grillo in three high elevation estate vineyards near Palermo which are harvested at different times
to contribute to the complexity, richness and freshness of the final wine. Fermented and aged briefly in temperature controlled stainless steel, the Grillo Cavallo delle Fate is round and textured, loaded with flavors of ripe stone fruit – white peaches and apricots - with plenty of freshness and bright structure
and an earthy, savory edge. Full flavored and refreshing, it’s a natural pairing with richer seafood (think scallops or crab cakes), white meats like pork or veal, or sushi and sashimi.
