In 1976, Jerry and Sigrid Seps fell in love with an abandoned former winery located in the mountains above Calistoga - northwest Napa- and purchased a 90 acre parcel. They renamed it Storybook Mountain to pay tribute to the scenic beauty and honor the original founders. Storybook Mountain is located on an eastern slope of the Mayacamas Range whose ridges separate Napa from Sonoma. Zinfandel has been planted here, on red clay-loam hillsides since the early 1880's, and the estate's sought-after wines are carefully handcrafted from certified organic vineyards surrounding the winery.
2014 is the inaugural vintage of Four Reds, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Petit Verdot, 15% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. It is a lighter, more accessible, but well structured version of our traditional Cabernet, with the true Bordeaux traits of herbs and forest floor to go with its berry fruit. It remains typically Storybook in its clean, focused mouth feel, that avoids sweetness, providing instead a flavorful rendering of Bordeaux's unique savory yet fruity combination.
