In 1976, Jerry and Sigrid Seps fell in love with an abandoned former winery located in the mountains above Calistoga - northwest Napa- and purchased a 90 acre parcel. They renamed it Storybook Mountain to pay tribute to the scenic beauty and honor the original founders. Storybook Mountain is located on an eastern slope of the Mayacamas Range whose ridges separate Napa from Sonoma. Zinfandel has been planted here, on red clay-loam hillsides since the early 1880's, and the estate's sought-after wines are carefully handcrafted from certified organic vineyards surrounding the winery.
This 2014 special cuvee is presented to show just how elegant, fragrant and balanced Napa hillside Zinfandels can be. It is a step beyond vineyard designation, and represents style as much as place. Most of the grapes come from the heart of the estate's east facing vineyards; it is the balance and finesse of east facing vineyards that give the wine its name. The selection criteria emphasize aroma, middle-palate and finish – berries with hints of flowers, minerals and spice in the aroma; multi-layered and rich flavor on the broad and supple middle palate; and an intense, clean and lingering impression on the finish. A touch of Viognier is added to enhance the intriguingly exotic and sensual quality of this very special wine.
