In 1976, Jerry and Sigrid Seps fell in love with an abandoned former winery located in the mountains above Calistoga - northwest Napa- and purchased a 90 acre parcel. They renamed it Storybook Mountain to pay tribute to the scenic beauty and honor the original founders. Storybook Mountain is located on an eastern slope of the Mayacamas Range whose ridges separate Napa from Sonoma. Zinfandel has been planted here, on red clay-loam hillsides since the early 1880's, and the estate's sought-after wines are carefully handcrafted from certified organic vineyards surrounding the winery.
Antaeus, the son of Water and Earth in Greek mythology, is the symbol of strength derived from the soil. So too this wine, deriving strength from the matching of site and grape on every part of our land. The 2013 Antaeus is composed of 55% Zinfandel, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot and 6% Merlot. The intensity derived from red clay soils is here in full, while the coolness of our site provides the acid balance so essential to a wine’s grace and longevity.
