For over 25 years, Robert Sinskey has been a top winemaker in both Sonoma and Napa counties. A native Californian, he has slowly expanded his holdings in both the Carneros and Stags Leap districts to over 200 acres planted mostly to Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Bordeaux varietals. While his focus has traditionally been on top flight Pinot Noir and red blends, Sinskey’s Vin Gris of Pinot Noir is year in and year out one of the best roses produced in California. Grown biodynamically and organically in Carneros, the grapes were lightly pressed and fermented cool to extract a little color and preserve freshness and aromatics. The result is a crisp, lively rose that is redolent of fresh cherries and nectarines with hints of spring flowers and minerals. It’s a wonderful summer sipper that would pair with just about anything from fish to burgers.
