Didier Gimonnet is the second generation to direct this superb estate, with 28 hectares of holdings in grand and premier cru villages, predominantly in the Côte de Blancs. Pierre Gimonnet, Didier’s Grandfather, started bottling estate champagnes in 1935. A high percentage of old vines sets the estate apart, with seventy percent of Gimonnet’s holdings over 30 years old, of which some forty percent are over 40 years old, and 100+ year old vines in the Grand Cru village of Cramant. The 2010 is 100% Chardonnay and hails from Grand Cru vineyards on both chalk and limestone. According to Terry Theise, “it’s a sexy-pants Champagne; it’s got wiggle; toasted brioche, allspice, sautéed peaches, and underlying mineral.”
