Burgundy extends from the town of Chatillon sur Seine in the north to Lyon in the south: including the wine regions of Côtes de Chatillon, Yonne, Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Côtes du Couchey and Maconnais. The vast majority of Burgundy’s wines are produced from three grape varieties: Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and they are produced without blending the different grape types.  The result, therefore, is a mapping of these three grape types onto the whole range of Burgundy’s vineyards which consequently offers the wine lover a unique window through which to notice and appreciate the concept of terroir. The Burgundy vineyards have been intimately worked and studied for many centuries which has resulted in a complex and highly detailed system of nomenclature, one that beginning in the 1930’s the INAO has tried to formalize into a logical network of “appellations controlees”. At the most general level, vineyards from any of the Burgundy wine regions can produce white, red, rosé or sparkling wines with the Bourgogne appellation, like our featured wine from Hubert Bouzereau.

Domaine Hubert Bouzereau Gruère is a family estate, named for the union of two old Burgundy winemaking families: Hubert Bouzereau in Meursault, and Marie-France Gruère in Chassagne-
Montrachet. Hubert is the 7th generation of Bouzereau winemakers and it was in 1970 that he established his own estate with wife Marie-France. Today, two of their daughters have joined in the business: Marie-Laure has been working at the Domaine since 1995 and Marie-Anne since 1999. In 2001, they partnered with Hubert and created Domaine Hubert Bouzereau-Gruère et Filles. Their 10-hectare estate spreads out over six communes in the Côte de Beaune, the production of which is three quarters white wine and one quarter red. The Domaine's holdings are quite varied and composed of Grand Cru, Premiers Crus, Villages, and regional appellations.

Their 2015 Bourgogne Rouge is 100% Pinot Noir from superb Volnay and Chassagne-Montrachet plots that
constitute the backbone of the Bouzereau family wines. This wine is deeper and more focused than most regional Burgundies with a bouquet of ripe cherries, rose petals, citrus zest, and savory, turned earth. It is the perfect addition to all of your Fall meals, including roasted game birds, pork tenderloin, fatty fish dishes, and will pair effortlessly with everything on your Thanksgiving Day table.
