Fontezoppa is located between the towns of Serrapetrona and San Severino, one of the best areas to grow grapes in the Marche region. Owner/wine maker Giovanni Basso produces wines of traditional character that respect the territory and offer a sense of place. The 25 year-old vine Verdicchio vines here, grow between 500-600 meters above sea level, very close to the coast, in an area that benefits from cool Adriatic breezes. The grape’s pronounced acidity, concentration and mouthfeel make Verdicchio one of the most long lived wines of the Italian peninsula, and this 2016 Matelica DOCG is a delicious medium bodied wine that displays lively citrus notes, with hints of fresh apple, walnut and mango. Enjoy as a perfect complement to all seafood, including sushi and grilled shellfish.
