This 100% Marsanne is grown on the sandier plains adjacent to the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. It is typically blended with the other white wines of the Northern Rhone, notably Viognier and Roussanne. Alas, it shines all on its own. For her 2017, Jeanne Gillard insists on a slow fermentation in neutral barrels with full malolactic, 7-8 months aging in aged French oak with some stirring of the lees. The wine feels rich, moving with a lively cadence. It’s aromas are an exotic yet gentle mingling of sweet spice, vanilla, and orchard fruit.
